The Orient Building soffit reconstruction previously scheduled to begin this week was delayed by contractor commitments and weather. This work has been tentatively rescheduled to begin on Tuesday 10/23.

A break has occurred on a fiber optic feed between the Corchaug and Woodlands Buildings. This has the effect of interrupting computer networking services in the Woodlands Building. Information Technologies is working to expedite the repair. Telephone services are functional.

The countertop for the new tray line by the orange tile wall in the Peconic Cafe is scheduled to be installed tomorrow - Friday 10/19.

The long anticipated capital project to improve site safety conditions on the Eastern Campus is finally about to start. Ultimately, the scope of this project has narrowed to include the following elements:
  • Lighting Improvements -
    • New roadway lighting at the main entrance to the campus
    • Replacement of existing light fixtures (heads only) in the E&W parking fields
    • New walk lighting around Corchaug Building
    • New walk lighting in select areas to supplement existing
    • Replacement of roadway lighting on Speonk-Riverhead Rd. adjacent to campus.
  • Traffic Safety -
    • New flashing caution sign on Speonk-Riverhead Rd. South of the Main Entrance.
  • Drainage Repairs -
    • Repair of several collapsed storm drain catch basins in E&W parking fields
The contractor anticipates having personnel on site beginning next week to mark out utilities, with excavation tentatively scheduled to begin the week of 11/5. Every effort has been made to expedite the highest priority elements of this project such as the currently non functional light fixtures in Parking Field 3. Additional detail will be posted both here and via other appropriate channels as the schedule comes further together. Tomorrow (Thursday 10/18) from 11am - 12 noon, the Eastern Campus will be subjected to an electrical curtailment, in keeping with SCCC's ongoing involvement in a statewide energy management initiative. During this period, all campus electrical loads (including lighting and HVAC equipment) will be turned off, with the exception of areas of classroom instruction or other processes vital to college business.
